Private Hysterectomy in Canada vs USA

When it comes to private hysterectomy, there are a couple of choices for Canadian women. It can be done locally in Quebec, or there are options in the USA. While the first inclination for many would be to stay in Canada, there are certain things to keep in mind. Some of it will be your personal preference and the proximity to your home town.

Private Hysterectomy in Canada
  • Cost range is $14,000 to $20,000.
  • Require two visits. The first is for an in-person consultation. If you are deemed to be a good candidate for surgery, then the next trip would be for surgery.
  • May take longer due to the above. On average it can take 1 week to get an in-person appointment and then 1-3 months to schedule a surgery.
  • It is in Canada, and if any complications occur they can be handled at the nearest hospital, thus no extra expense for medical complication insurance.
Private Hysterectomy in the USA
  • Cost starts at USD $8500.
  • Able to review medical records and have a phone consultation.
  • Faster access to surgery. Phone consultation can take place in 2-5 business days from the day of submitting your medical records. Surgery can be scheduled within 2-4 weeks.
  • Can be more complicated to fly to – one layover is common. It depends on where you are coming from of course. Major Canadian airports will have better flight options.
  • Medical complication insurance should be considered. Even though we never had a case with a complication, they do occur and the costs can be high.

Private Conformis Patient-Specific Knee Implant

All human bodies are unique in their ways. Our knee joint is not an exception. Even though human
knees consist of the same parts, the size, shape, and curvature of each knee differs. In a regular knee
replacement, there are just a few sizes available to fit your anatomy. However, these sizes may not fit
your specific build perfectly.

Mass-produced, symmetric implants can be mismatched with your original asymmetric native joint.
There can be overhang and underhang in alignment of your bones and the implant. Those dig into your
flesh and result in pain. Mismatches between tibial implants and femurs force compromises in implant
performance. Mismatches and compromises drive post-operative pain, making the recovery longer and
not pleasant.

Conformis is the only company that offers a fully personalized design of implants for a more precise fit. It is
made just for you, based on your existing knee joint and anatomy. It requires some additional steps and
time. You will need to get a specialized CT scan done at a facility that is familiar with Conformis protocol.
After the CT scan, it takes about 8 weeks to make your new knee joint – designed specifically for you.

The additional costs for Conformis knee are reasonable. They will cover the CT scan and are about
USD$500. The price of a Conformis knee starts at USD$28,000. The surgery is performed by an experienced
surgeon fully trained in this procedure who performed a high number of Confromis surgeries in the past.

Studies show that traditional knee replacements can leave up 30% of the patients who received them
unhappy with pain relief and function, partly due to poor implant fit, alignment and bone coverage.
Patients with Conformis knee replacement report higher satisfaction with the results of the surgery.
They are also reported to be more likely to recommend a knee replacement to their friends.

Private Jiffy Knee Replacement – Is It Available in Canada?

Jiffy Knee is a new technique for a total knee replacement. It preserves the body’s natural structures and avoids cutting the quadricep tendon. This approach allows for less pain, lower risk of complications, and quicker return to your daily activities.

Traditional knee replacements usually involve a lengthy recovery period and months of physiotherapy before regaining full mobility. In contrast, the Jiffy Knee technique can have patients walking without assistance in as little as two days post-surgery, a testament to its effectiveness and efficiency. The recovery process is much more doable and less painful.

Is it offered in Canada? Well, not yet. Only 14 orthopedic surgeons offer it in the USA, where the method was created by Dr. Manish Patel. Despite its clear advantages, the Jiffy Knee technique is not yet a universal standard in knee replacement surgery. The reasons vary, from the specialized training required to master the technique to the slow pace at which new medical practices are adopted across the orthopedic community.

However, Health Vantis is lucky enough to work with one of these surgeons. This surgical office also offers Canadians bundled pricing. This means you will get one price for everything involved in your surgery – professional, facility, and anesthesia fees are included. Also included are the first couple of physiotherapy sessions. It will start the same day post-op and can be scheduled at your hotel room if need be.

Private Knee Replacement Jiffy Knee – What Are the Benefits?

In our last blog, we introduced a new technique in total knee replacement – Jiffy Knee. In a couple of words here is what Jiffy Knee does. It allows to spare, not cut, your quadricep tendon. It accesses the knee on the side, by using a special instrument to lift and slide the muscles aside. In sparing the quadricep tendon there are several benefits.

  • there is less pain
  • less swelling
  • less use of narcotics for pain management
  • on average, it is 7 days faster off ambulatory aids
  • quicker driving
  • quicker return to work and recreational activities
  • quicker gains to range of motion
  • less patellar tracking problems
  • overall a much more pleasant outcome and post-op course
  • no additional costs or upcharges for a total knee replacement to use this method

It is still a total knee replacement.  This technique is not more expensive, yet makes the recovery process less painful and more doable for patients. Early mobilization is the norm for this procedure. Patients are more active, early on. In rehab, that means better outcomes and less need for pain drugs that can be addictive. Early mobilization also decreases the risk of DVT.

Health Vantis works with an orthopedic surgeon who is trained in Jiffy Knee method and also offers bundled pricing for Canadian patients (one price for all medical components of surgery – professional, facility and anesthesia).  If you are interested in finding out more, please give us a call toll-free 877 344 3544 or email us

Jiffy Knee – Private Total Knee Replacement in the USA

In the field of total joint replacements, doctors are always searching for new, innovative techniques to minimize pain and speed up patients’ recovery. This month we will be introducing Jiffy Knee, a new technique to perform a total knee replacement. Our first blog is an introduction and explanation of what it is.

Jiffy Knee method was developed by Dr. Manish Patel. Dr. Patel is a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon (American Board of Orthopedic Surgery) with extra training, Fellowship, in Sports Medicine. This specialization in Sports Medicine combined with his experience allowed him to create a new technique, called Jiffy Knee. At the center of his method is soft tissue preservation during knee replacement.

Under the traditional knee replacement, surgeons cut the quadricep tendon and then stitch it back after the surgery. The quadricep tendon is a key component for walking and climbing. It is on the top of your knee. You can feel it moving if you place your hand on top of your knee and bend your knee.  No wonder the recovery after a total knee replacement can take a while and require a lot of physiotherapy. If you have a scar on the front of your knee after your total knee replacement, that is a traditional approach.

Jiffy Knee technique avoids this cutting. Trained in Jiffy Knee method surgeons use specialized instruments and technique to gently lift and slide the muscle aside. This way, only the skin and the capsule are cut. The entire approach is not from the front but from the medial (inside of the knee) side of the knee. You can also put your hand on the medial side of the knee and feel and bend it. Do you notice the difference in movement between the front and side?

Needless to say, there is less pain and the recovery time is shorter with this technique. Please check our blog next Wednesday for more benefits of Jiffy Knee. Health Vantis works with an orthopedic surgeon who is trained Jiffy Knee method and also offers bundled pricing for Canadian patients. Bundled pricing means one price for all medical components of surgery – professional, facility, and anesthesia.  If you are interested in finding out more about Jiffy Knee, please give us a call tool free 877 344 3544 or email us
