Private Fibroid Removal for Fertility

Fibroids are a common condition that can impact a woman’s ability to conceive.  Depending on the size and location of the fibroid, it can hinder your ability to get pregnant or carry a baby to full term without complications.  Waiting to have surgery to remove the fibroid(s) can be a lengthily process if you are on a time crunch.  Considering private fibroid removal options are available to you.

What are Fibroids and Benefits of Removal for Fertility

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in the uterus. They can vary in size and location.  Many women may have fibroids without experiencing any symptoms, however, others may suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and fertility issues. Fibroids can interfere with fertility in several ways, including blocking the fallopian tubes, affecting the implantation of a fertilized egg, or causing miscarriages. By removing fibroids that may be affecting your reproductive organs, you can increase your chances of conceiving naturally or through assisted reproductive technologies.

Types of Fibroid Removal and Risk

Types of surgery to remove fibroids include hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, laparotomy or myomectomy.  Your GYN surgeon will determine which procedure is right for you depending on the size, location and number of fibroids you need removed.  If you are trying to preserve fertility, a myomectomy is normally the best choice as it is less likely to cause bands of scar tissue that may develop after surgery.

Myomectomy, however, does come with risk.  If the surgeon needs to make a deep incision in the uterine wall, it forever weakens the uterus.  This in return can cause a rupture to the uterus during labor, which is very dangerous for the baby and mother.  Due to this, a scheduled C-Section is normally recommended.

If you decide to proceed with the surgery on a private basis, plan to stay in town near the facility that did your surgery for 5-7 days.  Your surgeon will tell you when they feel like you are ok to travel home. Although it varies, most women are back to normal day to day activities within 4 weeks.
